was@50 is a juxtaposition of Anonymous Smith’s early works from the ‘60s, ‘70s or ‘80s, and those from the late 2000s/early 2010s, representing a shift to digital. It is a selected retrospective view—i.e. a non-comprehensive view of his oeuvre—of the self-struggle to understand form, color, and content/expression, in diverse media where Smith [self taught; never had a single art studio or new media studio course] was researching his own pathway to understanding how still imagery functioned. An installation on the floor of the gallery will concretize the notion of pixels, yet it is not digital.

Concurrent with was@50 is re.Poster.
