"Rethinking Paternalism"
March 26, 2019
10:50 a.m. - 12:05 p.m.
Room PE261

"In this talk, I trace how a literary phenomenon that I call “toothless pedagogy” can help us to rethink paternalism, a concept that generally functions as something of a dirty word in children’s literature and childhood studies. Long before feminist moral philosophers began grappling with the question of what paternalism is and when it might be justified, children’s stories featuring toothless pedagogy were already inviting readers of all ages to ponder these vexing questions."

Everyone is welcome!
