Ian MacLachlan is Professor Emeritus of Geography, University of Lethbridge and Visiting Professor at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, School of Urban Planning and Design. In his fourth semester in Shenzhen, he will be working on the social issues arising from high-rise housing in China. In his Architecture Now presentation, he will consider the quintessentially American origins of skyscraper design and development from the late nineteenth century to the present day.
