Centre for Sport and Wellness Project Manager Brian Sullivan says the end of the massive construction effort is drawing closer and closer.
“We expect the new gymnasium space to be fully operational in December and the renovated space to be in operation in early 2007. New sections of the building are in use, and Sport and Recreation Services staff are working very hard to keep our service standards up,” says Sullivan.
The demolition and drilling in the old gymnasium that was causing much of the dust is largely complete, and the noise involved in completing the building will diminish as various components are finished.
Sullivan says the old gymnasium space will barely be recognizable when the renovations are complete. “A second floor has been added to the space, and the majority of the gym walls have been removed to connect the old space to the new facility,” says Sullivan.
Sport and Recreation Services Fitness Centre and Climbing Centre users check in at the temporary customer service centre at the southwest corner of Level 1 of the Physical Education Building.

The temporary locker rooms in PE110 will serve students, staff and community members until the new locker rooms are ready early next year. Showers are available in the Max Bell Regional Aquatic Centre change rooms.
