The University Library requires a technically experienced individual to fill the position of Technical Specialist I within the Systems and Web Services (SWS) work group. This is a temporary maternity leave position starting approximately June 15, 2007 and ending approximately July 11, 2008.

Reporting to the Manager of Systems and Web Services and working closely with members of the work group and other Library staff, the successful applicant will be responsible for:
participating in the installation, preventative maintenance, and technical support of the various information and audiovisual, technologies/equipment within the Library;
assuming responsibility for the delivery of all types of public service at the General Services Desk (GSD) in the Library including some evening and weekend shifts - as a fully participating member of the GSD Team; and
providing back-up support in the development and maintenance of pages on the two Library Web sites both public and internal as needed.

Hiring Salary Range: $2,639.00 - $3,059.50

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated technical ability and knowledge in current computer hardware and software technologies, both Windows and Macintosh-based, as well as a basic understanding of networking technologies and knowledge of a variety of audiovisual technologies used in the Library. Knowledge of electronics would also be considered desirable. In addition, the candidate should possess a certificate or diploma in Computer Information Technology and have some experience with dynamic database-driven Web pages and sites. The ideal candidate must have a strong service orientation, excellent problem-solving skills, some familiarity/experience working in library environments, and the flexibility and willingness to be constantly learning new procedures and technologies. The ability to maintain effective working relationships in a fast-paced, demanding team-oriented environment and with the University community and the general public is essential.
