LIBRARY OPERATIONS SPECIALIST II

The University Library requires a qualified Library Operations Specialist II to join its Collections and Database Services (CDS) team. This is a full-time permanent position beginning approximately May 1, 2007.

Reporting to the CDS manager, responsibilities of this position include derived cataloguing of materials in a variety of formats using tools such as the current editions of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Library of Congress Classification Schedules, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and various MARC21 standards: serials binding work; assistance with acquisitions work such as verifying orders, downloading appropriate bibliographic records into the Library’s database and receiving orders; collection maintenance activities such as book repair, donations processing, withdrawals processing; regular participation in the staffing of Library service desks; and participation in other Library activities or projects as needed. Some adjustments to specific responsibilities of this position may be required when the results of a review process currently being undertaken by the Library are known.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $2,639.00 $3,059.50 per month.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess a two-year college diploma in library and information technology, demonstrable original cataloguing skills, knowledge of acquisitions works, and directly related work experience, or a suitable combination of library-related education and experience.

In addition, the successful candidate must have excellent organization and time-management skills, the ability to exercise initiative and judgement appropriately, and the ability to establish and maintain productive and collegial relationships with co-workers in a team-orientated work environment. Also required are a consistent demonstration of effective communication skills and a strong service orientation in working with and assisting co-workers, Library users, members of the University community, and the general public.
