CAREER & EMPLOYMENT ADVISOR
Career & Employment Services at the University of Lethbridge is seeking a dynamic student-centered individual for the full-time continuing position of Career and Employment Advisor.
Career & Employment Services (CES), a unit within the Registrar’s Office and Student Services, is responsible for supporting students and graduates in making informed career choices, while also increasing their chances of success in job search efforts. In fulfilling this mandate the unit is also responsible for aiding the recruitment process for employers.
Reporting to the CES Director, the Career and Employment Advisor provides professional career & employment related advice & essential information to students/alumni, through individual consultations in person or by distance, and group workshops. The career advisor is also engaged in program development and implementation, supervising student volunteers, organizing career events and interacting with employers.
The successful candidate will possess a passion for career development, a positive attitude and the talent to inspire confidence and enthusiasm in students. Their excellent communication and interpersonal skills will ensure their ability to work effectively with all stakeholders and as an integral part of the CES team. Key to the position are demonstrated skills in organization, leadership, workshop delivery and a high level of computer proficiency. They will have a strong commitment to service for students, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and exercise flexibility and independent judgment in a complex environment.
The incumbent will have an undergraduate degree in a related field plus additional coursework in the career development area. Preference may be given to those possessing a CCDP designation or a Career Development certificate or diploma. The successful candidate will have detailed knowledge of the career development process, work search strategies and labor market issues and trends. A minimum of 2-4 years experience in career advising and employment counseling is essential.
