Canada Wide Science Fair Leadership Opportunities
University Experience and Enhancement Team


The University Committee responsible for organizing the Canada Wide Science Fair is looking for 3 part time students to assist with the coordination and enhancement of on-campus events for the science fair participants, community engagement at local and provincial levels and communication development related to the on-campus events.

The University of Lethbridge is extremely fortunate to be the host venue for the 2013 Canada Wide Science Fair. This event will bring over 1500 visitors to the University of Lethbridge between May 11th- 18th and it will receive significant attention on the National, Provincial and local levels. This is an exceptional opportunity to be involved and build your resume.

Hourly Wage: $14.00 per hour
Hours: 10 hours per week. Flexible with your schedule Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30am – 4:30pm

Term: January 14th – May 18th, 2013

1st Position:

Social and Events Coordinator

• Assist with coordinating and implementing social evening activities
• Develop interactive campus tours and activities
• Assist with the planning and implementation of opening ceremonies
• Recruit, train and coordinate student volunteers for social evenings and Discovery Day
• Communicate with faculty and staff volunteers

This position will report to the communications department within University Advancement and has an emphasis on recruitment by enhancing the UofL experience for the 500+ CWSF participants. Requirements of the job will be to recruit assistance from University Departments, students and off-campus organizations to help make this a memorable experience.

2nd Position:

Community Engagement Coordinator

• Develop engagement strategies for school and community visits to the CWSF
• Develop interactive campus tours and activities for local students and guests visiting campus for the CWSF
• Recruit, train and coordinate student volunteers
• Assist with the coordination and implementation of Discovery Day, an interactive event where students visit different University departments
• Develop welcome packages/tours for visiting judges

Focusing on providing a quality UofL experience for all visitors to campus for the CWSF, this position will work with numerous groups such as Conference & Event Services and the Local Host Committee but will report directly to Destination Exploration Department. Applicant should be comfortable contacting and coordinating with different groups and departments on and off campus.

3rd Position:

Communication Coordinator

• Assist with development of on-campus communications (posters, brochures, and signage)
• Raise awareness on and off campus of the event and the U of L’s involvement
• Recruit, train and coordinate student volunteers
• Develop and implement effective communication strategies to deliver University information to participants and visitors

Working directly with the university communications department within University Advancement, this position will focus on informing the on and off campus community of the events being offered for the CWSF. Previous design and marketing experience is preferred.

Interviews will be scheduled and conducted in person or via phone depending on your holiday schedule.
