ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT II

The University of Lethbridge is seeking applications for the position of Accounting Assistant II to begin work in Financial Services as soon as possible.

The Accounting Assistant will be responsible for auditing reimbursement claims for compliance with University policies and Canada Revenue Agency regulations. Additional duties include reconciling the University’s main bank accounts, financial reporting for the University of Lethbridge Faculty Association Study Leave and the University of Lethbridge Travel Fund Committees, reconciling internal accounts receivable, administering travel advances and managing corporate card accounts. The incumbent will also assist faculty and staff with relocation to Lethbridge.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $4,686.00 - $5,304.50 per month.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess, at minimum, an undergraduate university accounting degree and at least 3 years of related work experience. Experience in the public sector or a public accounting firm and/or working towards an accounting designation would be an asset.

The Accounting Assistant is responsible for examining a large number of transactions with a high degree of accuracy therefore attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are essential. This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a focus on customer service in order to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the University community while consistently complying with policies, procedures and regulations.

The successful candidate will have advanced skills using Microsoft Excel and experience preparing complex bank reconciliations as well as general ledger account reconciliations and adjusting journal entries. Experience with Banner Finance would be an asset. This position requires knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency’s taxable benefit guidelines and University policies in order to recognize potential accounting and income tax issues.
