The Information Technology Department at the University of Lethbridge is seeking applications for the position of Database Administrator reporting to the Manager, IT Systems Support. This position will commence work as soon as possible.

The Database Administrator is a capable and versatile professional with a broad background and experience in IT systems support and database administration. This individual will evaluate existing and emerging technologies, liaise with various university constituents, and assist in designing and implementing reliable, responsive, secure, and cost effective solutions related to a variety of database environments. In addition, the DBA is responsible for day to day operational tasks such as database performance analysis, corrective action, proactive tuning, maintenance, administration and backup and recovery across the entire database application infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or MIS, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Database administration experience with MS SQLServer, Postgresql, or MySQL databases. Oracle experience would be an asset.
• The candidate should be familiar with Linux and MS Windows Server 2003/2008 systems administration, as well as basic network communications experience.

The incumbent should possess leadership, organizational, oral communication and project management skills and must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision. The candidate must be able to deal with the demands of a 7 x 24 environment. The ability to build strong working relationships with faculty and staff is an asset.
