PROGRAM SPECIALIST I
(NATIVE STUDENT ADVISOR)
(PROJECT POSITION)

Student Services is seeking applications for a Program Specialist I (Native Student Advisor). This is a project position ending approximately March 2014.


Reporting to the Coordinator, Native Student Advising, the incumbent will provide guidance and support to individual First Nations, Metis and Inuit students so they can be successful in their academic programs and ultimately graduate from the University of Lethbridge. The successful candidate will also provide support to the FNMI student community at the University to increase their sense of comfort at and engagement with the university community. Working closely with the Coordinator, Native Student Advising, this position will endeavor to raise the First Nations, Metis and Inuit cultural profile on the University of Lethbridge campus and within the community in general and act as liaison to the Native American Student Association. The candidate will also plan and organize FNMI events, such as the FNMI New Student Orientation, the Welcome BBQ, Native Awareness Week and Convocation and other related duties as assigned.


HIRING SALARY RANGE: $4,226.00 - $4,785.50 per month.


QUALIFICATIONS:


The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree and at least 3 years of related work experience. The incumbent must be self-directed and be familiar with First Nations, Metis and Inuit culture, values and history. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of those features of the Blackfoot Nation such as knowledge of Blackfoot protocol. This position is required to liaise with a large number of University faculty, staff and community organizations and therefore requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a focus on customer service.


The ability to maintain effective working relationships with the University community is essential.
