The Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy, at the University of Lethbridge, requires a qualified Administrative Assistant I for a full-time position, to commence work as soon as possible.

We are seeking a “customer service” oriented individual who will contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Prentice Institute. We are looking for an independent person who is comfortable working in a quiet research environment with researchers from all over the world, with the ability to help with publications and research reports.

Reporting to the Director of the Prentice Institute, the administrative assistant will provide day-to-day operational administrative support and front line reception for the Prentice Institute. Duties will include responding to enquiries; scheduling and preparing for lunchtime seminars and distinguished visiting speakers and guests; website maintenance; drafting and distributing correspondence and other documents; managing files and records for the Institute; compiling data and preparing reports; monitoring budgets and assisting with financial transactions; assisting with preparation of grant applications and research publications; event planning; and other related duties as assigned by the Director.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $3,558.00 to 3,958.50 per month.


The successful candidate will have a two-year Office Administration or comparable diploma and a minimum of three years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven administrative skills (including proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software, as well as email and other on-line tools), are required, as are excellent communication, organizational, record-keeping, and telephone skills. Experience with web site maintenance is critical. The successful candidate must also have a demonstrated ability to work independently in a professional setting, while maintaining effective working relationships within the University community

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working in a post secondary environment. Previous experience working with a diverse group of active researchers, and working directly with Boards of Directors will also be assets.
