The University of Lethbridge Call Centre runs each fall and spring semester. The position of student caller involves contacting U of L alumni by telephone to update their alumni records, share news about the University, and ask them to make a donation to the U of L. This position is directly responsible to the shift supervisors and Annual Giving Officer, and ultimately responsible to the Manager of Development Programs.

Requirements:
•You need to be comfortable asking people for money.
•You need to be a current U of L student, be involved in the University community, and have enthusiasm for the University.
•You need to be fluent in English and have excellent verbal communication skills, including effective listening and comprehension skills.
•You need to be outgoing and comfortable talking to strangers.
•You need to be able to effectively manage your time between school and work.
•You need to be able to work both on your own and as part of a team.
•You need to have computer skills and be detail-oriented.
•Experience in fundraising, sales, or customer service would be an asset.

Duties & Responsibilities:
•You will need to be an ambassador for the U of L, conveying a positive impression of the University and leaving all alumni with a good feeling about it.
•You will need to obtain donations from alumni and work toward fundraising goals.
•You will need to handle each phone call with courtesy, tact, and sensitivity.
•You will need to develop techniques to deal with objections and improve the structure and style of your calls.
•You will need to attend all training and be receptive to ongoing coaching.

All successful applicants must attend an HR orientation on September 21, 2012 and training on September 22 and 23, 2012.

Calling hours:
-Monday to Thursday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
-Saturday and Sunday, 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This semester’s calling program will start on September 24 and run until mid-November. All successful applicants are expected to work 2 shifts (eight hours) per week. Additional shifts may be available depending on scheduling and caller performance.

Starting salary: $9.75/hour

Depending on attendance and performance, student callers may be invited back each semester and may be eligible for wage increases.

Location: The call centre is located off campus, on the second floor of the Penny Building (324-5th street south).
