The challenge continues and an opportunity now exists for an outstanding individual to join the University as a Disability Resource Assistant.

The Counselling Services department is seeking applications for the position of Disability Resource Assistant. Reporting to the Unit Supervisor for the Disability Resource Centre, the incumbent will support students with physical, psychiatric, and learning disabilities in a variety of ways ranging from assistance with funding documents to classroom and exam accommodations. In addition, the incumbent will focus on assistive technology supports. In consultation with the Disability Resource Centre Learning Strategist, the Disability Resource Assistant will be responsible for teaching students with disabilities how best to use assistive technology to function effectively and efficiently in the post-secondary environment. The overall focus of the position will be to provide a positive, supportive environment that is encouraging and recognizes the student’s unique strengths and needs.

The ideal candidate will have a University degree, a minimum of 3 years direct experience in dealing with students with disabilities, and awareness of issues related to students with disabilities in post secondary studies. In addition, a strong background in Information Technology including Microsoft Office Suite, as well as diverse assistive technology platforms is required. The successful candidate must possess excellent interpersonal qualities as well as verbal and written communication skills.
