Academic Assistant (Research Officer)
Term Appointment
The Faculty of Education at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for the position of Research Officer. This is a half-time, ten-month appointment for two years. The position is at the rank of Academic Assistant II.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Graduate Studies and Research, the role of the Research Officer is to aid in the implementation of the Faculty of Education Research Plan and to help maintain and nurture the vibrant research culture of the Faculty.
The Research Officer will provide administrative and technical support for faculty and institutional research, including liaison with the University of Lethbridge Office of Research and Innovation Services; provide support in identifying and securing research and scholarship funding for faculty members and graduate students; organize faculty research and development seminars; assist in the coordination of professional development research opportunities, including liaison with the faculty AISI Coordinator; conduct initial review of research proposals prior to formal review by the Human Subjects Research Committee; liaise between practicing classroom teachers/administrators and the Faculty of Education Graduate Studies office on matters pertaining to research; collaborate in the development of a plan for profiling faculty and graduate student research; assist with the review of projects and theses with respect to approved format and style; provide assistance with updating the faculty research website; and perform other responsibilities assigned by the Dean.
This position would be of particular interest to a retired educator/administrator/researcher with links to the school communities of Southern Alberta and who has an interest in reading, supporting, and/or conducting educational research.
General qualifications include:
• Masters of Education degree or equivalent
• Interest in (and experience with) educational research
• Familiarity with technology related to research activity
• Administrative school experience is an asset
