Description: Applied Studies student positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. D. Wade Abbott for the upcoming semesters. Dr. Abbott is a research scientist for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and an adjunct professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Lethbridge. His lab investigates the relationship between dietary carbohydrates, gut bacteria, and host responses using functional genomics and structure-function approaches. Students involved with his group will be exposed to molecular biology, recombinant protein purification and protein biochemistry. The project will centre on helping to clarify our understanding of how microbial proteins interact and modify carbohydrates in the gut.
