The University Library requires a qualified Library Operations Specialist III to join its Collections and Database Services (CDS) team. This is a full-time permanent position beginning approximately December 1, 2008.

Reporting to the CDS manager, primary responsibilities of this position include original and derived cataloguing of materials in a variety of formats using tools such as the current editions of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Library of Congress Classification Schedules, CODOC classification system, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and various MARC21 standards; acquisitions work involving ordering information resources in all formats, liaising with vendors and subject librarians, and claiming unfilled orders; additional CDS responsibilities as needed in areas such as maintenance of the Government Documents and other Library collections, serials subscription maintenance, and database maintenance; regular participation in the staffing of Library service desks; and participation in CDS activities and projects.

This position requires flexibility in work hours to accommodate scheduled service desk shifts during evening, weekend, and selected statutory holiday hours of opening. Also required are the abilities to work independently, and to work cooperatively with other staff to ensure that CDS and Library services and operations are covered effectively at all times.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $3,118.00 - $3,648.00 per month.


We are seeking candidates who possess a two-year college diploma in library and information technology, demonstrable original cataloguing competence, thorough knowledge of all aspects of acquisitions work, as well as considerable directly related work experience, or a suitable combination of library-related education and experience.

In addition, the successful candidate must have excellent organization and time-management skills, the ability to exercise initiative and judgement appropriately, and the ability to establish and maintain productive and collegial relationships with co-workers in a team-oriented work environment. Consistent demonstration of effective communication skills and a strong service orientation in working with and assisting co-workers, Library users, members of the University community, and the general public are also required.
