Gonzalo Alvarado will discuss the history of the Quijus Nation in Ecuador, its disappearance during the Spanish colonial period, and the re-emergence of Quijus identity in recent years as a consequence of explorations of the historical origins of ethnic identity in the region. As the Quijus leader responsible for Indigenous Justice, he will explain the campaign to recuperate Quijus identity and the motivations driving the movement.
