Mr. Gonzalo Alvarado Tanguila is an indigenous leader from the Napo Province of Ecuador's Amazon. He has a long-standing commitment to the Amazonian indigenous social movement, and has been an active participant in political and cultural revitalization projects. Mr. Alvarado has organized and directed a variety of community-oriented development projects with the goal of providing sustainable economic alternatives to community members. One of those projects is an artisan craft project, where he and other members of a local association produce traditional handicrafts to sell at regional fairs; they are also seeking international markets for jewelry and other handicrafts; they see these activities as economically and environmentally sustainable while also strengthening cultural traditions and practices.
Mr. Gonzalo Alvarado will be sharing some lifestories and experiences. After that, there will be free snacks and Mr. Alvarado will do a demonstration of craft production.
