45th Anniversary Homecoming Events, October 12 - 14

The University of Lethbridge is welcoming hundreds of graduates back to campus and the community for a weekend of Homecoming activities.

Held every five years, the 45th Anniversary Homecoming has attracted alumni and their families from across Canada and several international locations.

The action-packed weekend begins on Friday, October 12 and includes several social gatherings, the Fall Convocation ceremonies, and much more.

Friday, October 12

The History and Geography Departments Present a talk entitled "Heraldry: Our Evolving Heritage" by Deputy Chief Herald Bruce Patterson (http://www.uleth.ca/notice/display.html?b=301&s=18322)

Bruce Patterson is the Deputy Chief Herald of the Canadian Heraldic Authority, and is visiting Lethbridge to officially unveil the U of L's Coat of Arms, and activity that takes place as part of the Fall convocation ceremonies on Saturday, October 13.


Faculty of Education presents Olympic Gold Medalist Adam Kreek

Adam Kreek is an Olympic medallist, environmental consultant, educator and advocate for water issues. He is also rowing across the Atlantic Ocean in the near future. Learn more about Adam and his trip at this engaging presentation.


Management Time Machine

Meet the current Students' Union team as they celebrate homecoming! The SU will also recognize former SU President (2002-2003) Melanee Thomas, currently an Assistant Professor at The University of Calgary in the Political Science Department.

Prior to her position at the University of Calgary she was The Skelton-Clark Post Doctoral fellow in the Department of Political Science at Queens University.Melanee went on to achieve her M.A. in political science, specialization in Canadian Politics from the University of Calgary in 2006, she then went further in her academic career and completed her Ph.D in Political Science at McGill University in 2011. Outside of academics, Melanee is also an accomplished runner and maintains an interest in music, having studied piano at the ARCT level with the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.

More than 300 new grads will celebrate Convocation with their families and friends, U of L President Emeritus Bill Cade will receive an Honorary Degree (http://www.uleth.ca/notice/display.html?b=300&s=18363), the U of L gets a brand new Coat of Arms, and the Alumni Association recognizes Dr Kathyrn Preuss (BSc '95) as the 2012 Distinguished Alumna of the Year (http://www.uleth.ca/notice/display.html?b=300&s=18362)


Friends of Health Sciences Award

This year, the Faculty is pleased to honour Jennifer Penner, RN, BScN, as the 2012 Friends of Health Sciences Award recipient.

Penner is a veteran health-care professional with more than 25 years experience as a registered nurse and nurse clinician in a wide variety of settings across Alberta.

The Theatre and Dramatic Arts Costume crew has once again put together a fashion show of epic proportions to reflect the U of L's 45th year. Celebrity models, among them President Mike Mahon and his wife Maureen, will display the hottest fashions of the 60s and 70s at this informal gathering.
