Women's Rugby Canada claims inaugural world university championship
BEIJING, China - Canada defeated Kazakhstan 27-5 early on Friday morning to win the inaugural Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) world women's rugby sevens championship, held in Beijing, China.
The Canadians opened the tournament with round robin victories over China 2 (20-0) and Russia (33-0), and advanced to the semi-final where they defeated China 1 by a score of 41-0.
Russia outscored China 1 by 22-5 to grab the bronze medal. China 2 placed fifth, in front of Thailand.
