PD Past Events

The Management Student Professional Development Program, launched in September 2013, has provided students with my exciting learning opportunities for personal and professional development.

To give you an idea of the sorts of activities that have been put on by PDP, here is a list of last year’s activities. This program will continue to build, and you can expect bigger and better things in the years ahead.

Student Professional Development Conference (February 2 & 3, 2017)

Social Responsibility Forum (April 7, 2015)

  • This event focused on the challenges that Canadian companies face as it relates to CSR and corruption and the steps companies need to consider when operating in higher risk environments.

Marketing Industry Evening- Calgary Campus (March 26, 2015)

  • A panel of Calgary’s top marketing professionals shared the secrets behind a successful marketing campaign. They also discussed what happens behind closed doors, where the battles occur. The students got answers to some burning questions like: Is the client always right? Does good creative always win?

Finance Industry Evening (March 19, 2015)

  • This event was an opportunity for students to network with industry professionals during a finance filled evening complete with a trading competition, three course plated meal, and an industry panel.

Professionals in Residence Alberta Motor Association Insurance Services (March 17, 2015)

  • An event targeted at students who want to pursue their career in AMA Insurance Services. This event was a great opportunity for students to learn from two professionals from AMA Insurance Services about the management, HR and IT divisions of AMA.

Chinook Challenge Case Competition Prep Sessions (February 4, 2015 to March 25, 2015- every Wednesday night)

  • A series of interactive workshops to prepare the students for the Chinook Challenge Case Competition.

KPMG Intercampus Case Competition (March 14, 2015)

  • In teams of three, students competed in a two round general business strategy case competition. The preliminary round was written, and the final round an oral presentation.

Pacioli Reception 2015- Calgary Campus (February 9, 2015)

  • The University of Lethbridge Faculty of Management and Accounting Faculty organized the Pacioli Reception 2015. It was an evening to honor the Accounting Industry and Practices. Network with accounting faculty, industry professionals, and students.

Student Professional Development Conference (February 5-6, 2015)

  • A two day event focused on professional development of students. The event included multiple successful speakers from different fields who shared their experiences with students.

Human Resources Industry Evening- Calgary Campus (January 29, 2015)

  • An event focused on discussing the skill of resiliency needed in today's competitive business world. Ila Edgar, founder of Big Change Inc., was the guest speaker at this interactive event.


Strengths Finder Workshop (October 24th & 25th, 2013)

  • An interactive workshop where students were able to complete a self-assessment test, and receive take home material to help them gain a better understanding of their personal self.

Executive in Residence- Anil Pereira (Nov. 7, 2013 and Mar. 13, 2014)

  • An event that brought a U of L alumni member, and successful industry entrepreneur to campus to share with students, faculty, and community his industry knowledge and expertise.

Pacioli Dinner (November 12th, 2013)

  • An event geared specifically for accounting students with the objective of connecting students with industry professionals in an environment that also facilitated a keynote speaker.

Marketing Industry Evening (November 27th, 2013)

  • An event aimed at marketing students which included networking opportunities as well as presentations from Alan Boras (Director, NATIONAL Public Relations Inc) and Michelle Everett (Director of Corporate Sales, Calgary Flames).

Student Professional Development Conference (February 6th & 7th, 2014)

  • A two day event filled with exciting learning opportunities both passive and interactive. This event featured an evening keynote address given by Zahra Al-Harazi (CEO & Creative Director, Foundry Communications, and a closing keynote Dan Thurmon (Peak Performance Coach). Interactive workshops included topics: Leadership and Influence (Freddi Dogterom), Utilizing Emotional Intelligence and Dynamic Communication (Greg Stonehocker), and Networking is Dead. Now what? (Karri Flatla).

HR Info Session (March 18th, 2014)

  • This event was an informative opportunity for HR students to learn about the HRIA, CHRP designation, and hear from a recent graduate who could give first hand advice.

Personality Dimensions Workshop (March 20th and 21st, 2014)

  • This workshop was an interactive opportunity where students learned about their own personal personality types and what this meant for them, as well as how it is relevant when working with other people.

Brett Wilson Event (March 26th, 2014)

  • The best deal maker from the hit show Dragon's Den, came to Lethbridge to share his story with students and the community. This was an opportunity to learn from an extremely successful entrepreneur as well as network with the very diverse audience.
