CIHR’s Institutes of Population and Public Health (IPPH) and Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA), in collaboration with CIHR’s Institutes of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) and Infection and Immunity (III), are pleased to be welcoming applications for Planning Grants on Global Health Research.
The program provides funding for planning activities/events that facilitate the development of partnerships, teams and/or grant applications for larger-scale research projects that could subsequently be funded by CIHR or other funders.
Our Institutes’ collective priority for this funding call is to support research that is of particular concern to the global community. Applications must also align with the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research’s Principles for Global Health Research as appropriate, and must be relevant to at least one of the following global health research priorities:
· Explaining patterns of health, health equity and well-being within a global context or as shaped by global economic, social, environmental and political factors;
· Improving health equity for people living in low- or middle-income countries or of vulnerable populations such as Indigenous peoples in multiple international settings; and/or
· Addressing transnational health threats, opportunities, determinants or solutions.
In addition to aligning with the global health research priorities, this funding opportunity has earmarked some funds to support research on arthritis, oral health, skin and musculoskeletal health –which includes prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) via promotion of physical activity and/or reduction of sedentary behaviour.
