WNRCASN - Education Innovation Award

The Education Innovation Award is intended to support a project designed to advance learning in nursing education. It can take a variety of forms such as technology, creative reconfiguration of a curriculum or a course within a curriculum, online learning, or innovative clinical experience. One award will be funded up to $5000. It is expected that the project will be completed within one year of receiving the award.

Criteria:

1. Applicants must be nursing faculty members who hold active membership in WNRCASN.

2. The proposed project must relate to an innovation in nursing education.  Assessment criteria will include:

  • degree of innovation (newness, difference, value add, etc.) associated with the project
  • impact on student teaching and learning
  • potential for the project to be used as a model for other educators

  • sustainability of the innovation

3. Graduate students are not eligible to apply for this award to fund their graduate theses, dissertations, or projects.

Each application must be submitted electronically and must include the following:

1. Personal data: Please ensure that all personal data are on a separate page which will be removed from the proposal prior to review in order to facilitate a blind review. All identifying information within the proposal will be obscured for the review process.

2. Project proposal: Should include as applicable:

  1. Research project summary (max 250 words).
  2. Describe the projects objective and rationale related to the purposes of the project.
  3. Describe the projects methods and potential outcomes, including future benefits and sustainability of the project.
  4. Describe your intended impact on teaching and/or learning in nursing education.
  5. Describe how the success of the project will be evaluated.

Please limit the proposal to a maximum of 2000 words, double spaced, one-sided, 12 font with 2.5 cm margins.

If ethical approval of the project is required (such as for data collection to support publication of an article on the project), the ethical review must be obtained and a certificate submitted prior to release of the funds.

3. Budget: Personnel and materials expenses only (conference expenses will not be covered). Please specify if funding is expected or has been obtained from other sources. Budget should be a maximum of one page in addition to the proposal.

4. Schedule of activities: Include a time line of project completion.

5. Please submit your application and proposal electronically in pdf format by midnight December 11 to secretary@wnrcasn.ca

Other Requirements:

1. Budget: Approximately 10% of the budget allowance may be moved from one line to another, as long as an explanation is provided to justify same. If the study cannot be completed as intended, all award monies must be reimbursed to WNRCASN. Funds will be released to the successful applicant on submission of certificate of ethical approval to the WNRCASN Secretary-Treasurer.

2. As an award recipient, the successful candidate(s) will be asked to provide a recent photo and a one page project overview (300 words) to be posted on the WNRCASN website.

3. Research funds must be deposited into a research account with the successful candidate’s educational institution. Funds will be sent to the successful candidate once the ethical approval certificate has been submitted to the WNRCASN Secretary-Treasurer.

4. WNRCASN must be credited with funding support in all public dissemination of the project.

Decisions for awards will be based on the quality of the application.
