Kathy Matkin-Clapton (Conservatory Choirs)

Conservatory Choirs, Artistic Director

Kathy Matkin-Clapton has always been guided by the belief that ‘music belongs to everyone‘. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the work she does with the U of L Conservatory Choirs. She believes that those who love to sing should be given a place to do so. That’s why all are welcome to join these choirs without an audition or previous musical experience. Under her direction, each singer is seen as valuable and is given the opportunity to grow as a musician through every rehearsal and performance.

In addition to her role as choral conductor, Kathy is a well known music educator, university instructor, clinician and arts enthusiast in our community. Her love for music and for working with young people are brought together in her role as choral director. She’s taught literally thousands of children, many of whom had their musical beginnings under her direction. While she’s is always proud of the recognition her choirs receive, her true goal is to create a community of singers who share a common love for song, laughter and making music together.
