B. Mus, University of Lethbridge, Alya grew up in Medicine Hat, Alberta where she began her piano studies at age 5. Throughout the years she studied and took exams in RCM piano, theory, history and harmony. Her passion for piano grew while under the guidance of internationally acclaimed pianist & teacher Glen Montgomery at the University of Lethbridge.

Since graduating from university, Alya has been passionate in teaching piano and theory to students of all ages. She has also become a teacher of the Suzuki method, attending workshops and joining the Southern Alberta Suzuki Association.

Alya has also been an active member of the University of Lethbridge Global Drums ensemble since 2010, with director Adam Mason. She has also assisted Adam Mason and Joe Porter with the Feel the Beat: Let's Drum! summer percussion camp for many years. Her passion for the steel drum has grown and along with public and private concerts in Alberta, has performed in France, the Netherlands, Trinidad & Tobago, Hong Kong, United States, Hawaii, Beijing, and England, with more tours to come!
