| Spent 7 years on campus, I loved my time there. However, it was the clubs that primarily drove what accounted for campus life and even then the layout was not primarily focused to servicing them (not that its a fault). To me the main developments which I would like to see are ones that increase the enjoyment of campus life during the winter months (the summer is amazing there but oft not seen for a good portion of the fall/summer semesters). What would be nice to see to increase quality of life during those months: - more green walls (plants) there is one (or two?) on campus and they where great relaxing student when it was -20 with the wind blowing outside. - stop removing the computer labs or vastly increase laptop viability on campus -> more desks with plugs built in and more consistent wifi providers. - Remove sudexo... its hard to believe still there is not a more cost effective method in Lethbridge that provides healthy and cost effective meals - campus village extension to include a corner store? |
| I agree with the need for more green space - the U of L actually does a decent job of this already, but it should be kept in mind going forward and improved upon even more. |
| Ive enjoyed seeing common areas for students to meet and sit, talk, work on projects, etc., expand over my degree, and that enriches student life for sure. Funding for projects that directly enhance student life is key, and we've seen that increase via the budget for the office of recruitment and student life, continuing that trend (and continuing to hire students) will be crucial to maintain a high water mark of enrolment. The students union and club of the ULSU will be important in forwarding ideas that will enhance student life, and maintaining a close connection and ear to the ground so to speak will be important as well. Continuing the funding for Quality Initiative Proposals is crucial to allow events like Fresh Fest and academic-related awareness weeks to gain momentum. |
| I lived off campus so can't offer much in the way of students living in residence and needing social enrichment, but the one thing I noticed that was severely lacking is entertainment. One of the things I was looking forward to in university was seeing all the live bands that toured the college scene, and there was very few that went to the Zoo, and one of two that I went to was cancelled and not rescheduled. I realize it is probably the responsibility of the student's union to bring the acts in, but having more entertainment would probably be a plus for students who want to do more than drink in their off time. I remember there being lots going on in the Atrium during the day, which was great but it was occasionally hard to study with all the noise. I agree with the above people talking about green spaces; the U of L has lots of places outside and a few inside, but more is always better:>). Perhaps a more larger, more comfortable/quiet place for studying is needed? I remember there being lots of small places, but somewhere off the beaten path where there is less noise and traffic would've been nice. |
| One more thing; it might have changed now, but being a vegetarian and very health-conscience I often found it hard to eat in the cafeteria so that is something that could use some work if it hasn't already. |
| better food would be a vast improvement, perhaps students might be more inclined to stay on campus; I'd like to see a commitment to more local food, vegetarian options, etc..; at Trent students started their own vegetarian restaurant named Seasons, via a food-club format and that has proven to be one of the most popular gathering spaces on campus--they also grow food in the summer on campus and those vegetables are used for winter restaurant production. transportation too and from the university other than by car needs improvement. |
