Q: Why did you choose the University of Lethbridge?
A: I heard it had a tight-knit community that contributed to a complete university experience. It has definitely lived up to its reputation. Even little things, like professors knowing your name and saying hi to you in the hallway, have personalized my experience here.
Q: How would you describe the U of L? What are the benefits of coming to a smaller institution?
A: A small institution like the U of L offers many opportunities for involvement that may not be available to everyone at larger universities. Here, there are all kinds of organizations and programs available to students, the Student-Managed Investment Fund being one of them.
Q: What have you enjoyed most about the program so far?
A: I have enjoyed taking classes in different aspects of management such as operations, accounting and marketing. Through this, I have gained an understanding of the cohesion of a firm and what each department is responsible for.
Q: How have your professors impacted your education? Have any changed the way you view the world or what you want to study?
A: My professors have impacted my by being so passionate in their teaching. Not only are they experts in their fields, they relate to you and genuinely want to see you succeed.
Q: Are you participating in any unique programs offered by the University? Research projects? Sports teams?
A: In the fall semester of 2011, I went on an international exchange to Utrecht, Netherlands. This was such an eye-opening experience which enhanced my view of the world. Being submerged in a different culture, in a different school was an invaluable education in itself.
Q: What is your most memorable experience so far at the U of L?
A: That would have to be Last Class Bash.
Q: What is the most important thing you’ve learned at the U of L?
A: One big life lesson I have gained from my university experience is you get out what you put in. It goes for anything from going to the gym, to extra-curricular involvement, to academics – the more you engage yourself, the more positive the results will be.
Q: Did you know what you wanted to study at the U of L?
A: An advantage we have at the U of L is, during your first two years, you are required to complete a wide variety of different courses both in your faculty and from other faculties. Over the years, I have taken classes in modern art, agriculture, history, astronomy and psychology. This helps give you an idea of what’s out there and what interests you.
Q: What do you like most about Lethbridge? What is your favourite thing to do here?
A: When the sun is shining, my favourite thing to do in Lethbridge is go for a float down the Old Man River.
Q: What do you plan to do with your degree? How will your U of L education get you where you want to go?
A: I plan to work for an investment bank on the sell side and eventually go into mergers and acquisitions.
Q: Would you recommend the U of L to prospective/high school students?
A: I would recommend U of L if you want a complete university experience. In a small school, there is a lot of chance to establish a social life, all the while taking full advantage of your education and exploring new horizons.
Q: What advice would you give prospective students?
A: If you can, live in residence for your first year.
