Q: Why did you choose the University of Lethbridge?
A: I was transferring from a SAIT marketing diploma and wanted to stay in Calgary. The Uleth Calgary Campus offered me an opportunity to work on my degree while I worked during the day.
Q: How would you describe the U of L? What are the benefits of coming to a smaller institution?
A: U of L is a great place. People are friendly and I feel like I get more out of the smaller class sizes.
Q: What have you enjoyed most about the program so far?
A: If you choose to pursue extra things, there is a whole lot here that is available. I have enjoyed all the challenging, hands-on courses here.
Q: How have your professors impacted your education? Have any changed the way you view the world or what you want to study?
A: There are a lot of really great professors here at the U of L. They are very helpful and get back to you right away when you need help. They have showed me that there are many ways to tackle real-world problems.
Q: Are you participating in any unique programs offered by the University? Research projects? Sports teams?
A: I have participated in three really good programs at the U of L. I have done Applied Consulting and Innovative Entrepreneurship. I’ve been a part of the Student-Managed Investment Fund. All of these have by far taught me the most through my whole education. The reason or this is they brought together all the simulations and theory I learned and applied it to the real world.
Q: What is your most memorable experience so far at the U of L?
A: In the Innovative Entrepreneurship class, we had to present our final milestone in front of about 60 different people, some of them in the industry. The whole class generated a feasible start-up idea and brainstormed on how to launch it. The presentation went awesome…people were handing us business cards, and we won our class competition. Now we are in the South Venture Business Competition with a strong chance of winning $20,000 to actually launch the idea with.
Q: What is the most important thing you’ve learned at the U of L?
A: The most important thing is to enjoy the process and not to solely focus on the end goal or worry about what comes after the degree.
Q: Did you know what you wanted to study at the U of L?
A: When I transferred to U of L from SAIT, I knew that I wanted to get my Management degree with a focus in Finance and Marketing.
Q: What do you like most about Lethbridge? What is your favourite thing to do here?
A: The thing I like most about Lethbridge is definitely the people. My favourite thing to do is hang out with friends. Everyone is a part of a community in a way here and you are always making new friends. I actually was only at the Lethbridge campus for two semesters total and I have already met and become friends with all different types of people.
Q: What do you plan to do with your degree? How will your U of L education get you where you want to go?
A: I want to have my own business. My friend and I started an app business. We have all kinds of ideas and there are multiple ways of making dreams a reality.
Q: Would you recommend the U of L to prospective/high school students?
A: I would, because it is a great education and, more importantly, it is a great experience that will continue to make you a stronger, more intelligent individual.
Q: What advice would you give prospective students?
A: I would tell them to enjoy the process of being a student and not worry what your future holds. Take every day one at a time and make it your best.
