Courses

Students in finance and other fields will take advantage of the facility's technological installations as a complement to their theoretical study.

While some courses will be taught entirely in the Centre, others will take place mainly in a regular classroom, integrating technical expertise through scheduled trading room access.

To learn more about which courses will be taught wholly or in part in the trading room, students should consult the current course listings and schedule as well as individual instructors.

The following courses integrate the resources of the Centre in their lectures and assignments:

  • MGT 2070 - Operations and Quantitative Management
  • MGT 3412 - Fundamentals of Investments
  • MGT 3480 - Personal Finance
  • MGT 4451 - Derivatives Securities Markets
  • MGT 4470/4471 - Student Managed Investment Fund (see further info below)

The Student-Managed Investment Fund and course

A $100,000 real-money account has been provided for investment by Management Finance students.

The fund has been established so that participating students can gain valuable practice managing a real-life investment portfolio and have an opportunity to interact and network with industry experts and other business students interested in finance.

In addition to supervision by the Centre's Academic Director, Dr. Pei Shao, guidance on trading activities will come from an advisory board comprised of external investment professionals, internal faculty members and legal experts. This will ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and university policies/guidelines.

Trading will be conducted by students enrolled in a new course designed specifically for the fund. This course is Management 4470/4471, Student-Managed Investment Fund. The course runs for two semesters, at the end of which students will receive a final grade.

Past investment experience is recommended. See current course listings for more information on this class.
