On Saturday, March 2nd, a team of three cracker-jack Management students brought home the winning trophy from the final round of the annual KPMG Case Competition.
The team included members of the Integrated Management Experience (IME) class: Janelle Dobing, Megan Kwok and Spencer Bonetti. Janelle was also honoured as the best overall presenter.
Each year, accounting firm KPMG LLP generously sponsors the competition where teams of three students go head-to-head in a general case study. Competitors are given two weeks to prepare a written response, after which four teams will be selected to compete in the final round, where they have an additional five hours to prepare an oral presentation for a panel of judges.
IME instructor Dan Kazakoff expressed his pride at the students' achievement.
"It was such an exciting and proud moment to see all of the students take a massive amount of information, analyze it and come up with their recommendations in a five-hour period," said Kazakoff. "I am constantly amazed at the skill level our students demonstrate in taking what they are learning in the classroom and practically applying their knowledge."
Each team also gets two volunteer advisors to provide additional guidance. This year's winning team advisors were Bob Cooney, U of L Media Relations and Jessica Joss, CA, CPA, a U of L grad and VP Finance and Operations, at Stranville Group Ltd.
Dan Kazakoff is optimistic about the long-term prospects for the winning students.
"They have such bright futures ahead of them and they will be great ambassadors for our Faculty when they start their careers," says Kazakoff. "My hat is off to them...they are great!"
The winners will be honoured at the Faculty of Management's Annual Scholarship Dinner on April 11, 2013.
