$20,000 in cash prizes available for innovative business plans!

Have a great idea that just needs a financial boost to become a legitimate business?

The Faculty of Management and University of Lethbridge - Industry Liaison Office are pleased to host the South Venture Business Plan Competition 2012.

The competition is open to post-secondary students and 2012 graduates from the Lethbridge and Medicine Hat regions, and from the U of L Calgary and Edmonton campuses.

Participating in the competition will allow you to:

• network with entrepreneurs and business leaders
• tap into the talent and experience of industry professionals at a free two-day workshop
• develop a polished business plan that will help you move from ideas to entrepreneurship

Deadline to enter is Friday, November 2, 2012

The workshop portion of the event takes place in Markin Hall on November 1st and 2nd. Taking part will give you valuable information and advice about various issues related to starting a business, including:

• generating viable ideas
• market assessment and marketing your business
• funding your project and financial planning
• addressing legal issues in business
• defining your business model
• pulling it all together in your business plan

Cost: there is no cost to participate, but registration is required.

Winning entries will receive a portion of the $20,000 cash pool as seed money to be used for expenses directly related to moving their business plan forward.

The top participants from the competition will automatically be eligible to compete in the provincial TEC Venture Prize Student Business Plan Competition. Not only will you have a chance to claim the provincial title, you’ll have another opportunity to win additional prizes!

The timeline for the competition is as follows:

September & October – Promotion to students
November 2 – Deadline for event registration
November 1 & 2 – Workshop
December 14 – Submission deadline for first draft
December 17-21 – Submissions reviewed by committee
January 24 – Deadline for submitting full business plans
TBA – Finalist presentations
