Welcome from the Dean 2010-2011 (full message)

Welcome to the Faculty of Management at the University of Lethbridge!

The Faculty of Management is a leader in management education in Canada.  We focus on the issues that confront business and management in the 21st Century: Expanding opportunities for Canadian business in global markets; fostering innovation and productivity growth to enable businesses to compete in those markets; and responding effectively to the environmental challenges that face business and society.  Because our worldview is both global and oriented toward the future, our students are prepared to assume roles of leadership in the organizations in which they work and the communities in which they live.

What you will discover at the University of Lethbridge is a remarkable and unique place to pursue higher education.  The university has a friendly and personal atmosphere where students get to know one another and make life-long friends.  We enable our students to fulfill their potential through our commitment to teaching innovation and excellence.   Our faculty has been educated at the leading universities in the world.  We ensure that our students understand the key issues confronting business today by bringing the latest ideas from around the world into the classroom.  “Our dedication to teaching enables our students to be at the forefront of management thought and action.   Thus graduates from the University of Lethbridge have a solid foundation for rapid career progress in business and management.”

We believe in the balance between knowledge gained in the classroom and experience beyond the classroom.  There are many opportunities to get involved in business, social, community service, and recreational activities in order to enrich your understanding of the broader world. We strongly support co-operative education, which integrates academic study with practical experience in work placements in Canada and abroad.  International exchanges open the world to you and help you to appreciate and understand other cultures.  The Integrated Management Experience enables you to bring together all of the knowledge and skills you have learned in the program to improve an organization in the community.  These opportunities allow you to develop your interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills; indeed, to develop the skills that will be essential to professional and personal success in the 21st Century.

The University of Lethbridge has three campuses across the Province of Alberta where you may pursue a Bachelor of Management, a Master of Science in Management, or a professional designation.  The Calgary and Edmonton campuses provide opportunities during the evenings and on weekends for working adults to pursue degrees in order enhance their career progress.   A recent partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta allows students to enter the CA Bridging Program, which is offered exclusively on these two campuses.

At the Lethbridge campus, we moved into Markin Hall in the Fall of 2010.  This is the most modern and forward-looking facility in Canada for studying business and management.  As well as classrooms with state of the art capabilities, such as videoconferencing, Markin Hall has 18 rooms where groups and individuals can study and work on projects.  We have Western Canada’s first trading room, with live streaming quotations from exchanges around the world, where you can learn to trade stocks, bonds and commodities.

I extend a personal invitation to call or visit us to learn more about the Faculty of Management at the University of Lethbridge.  We offer an exceptional university experience, an experience that reflects our respect for you as an individual and our deep commitment to develop the boundless potential that you possess.
