  • Borrowing guidelines for MSW (Lethbridge Division) distance students (living more than 90 km outside the city limits of Lethbridge).
Any costs incurred in returning borrowed material to the University of Lethbridge Library are the borrower's responsibility.

Updating your borrowing privileges

In order for you to have access to our journal databases, electronic books and interlibrary loan service, your borrowing privileges must be updated every semester. You can do this online by completing the Library Borrowing Privileges Application.

If you are a currently registered graduate student but do not have a University of Lethbridge ID card, you will lack a CampusCard Barcode (14 digits). In such cases, please insert a "0" into the space reserved for the bar code number. For the field labeled My primary campus is: please choose eitherUofL Lethbridge Campus(if you live within 90km of Lethbridge) or UofL Distance MSW (if you live further than 90km from Lethbridge).

All outstanding fines must be paid in full before library privileges are updated.
Fines payment may be made by:

(Please make cheque payable to the University of Lethbridge Library)
  • using Internet or telephone banking (enter your University ID number as the Account number)

NOTE: If paying by Internet or telephone banking, the University Library will need proof of payment before the fines can be removed from your library record. To obtain this proof, please email the University’s Cash Office to have them confirm receipt of your payment transaction, and then ask them to notify the Library’s General Services Desk (329-2265) that your fine has been paid.

Access to Library Materials

Although you are earning a degree from the University of Calgary, the University of Lethbridge Library is your primary library and you have full access to our collections of books, videos, government documents etc., as well as to our licensed databases and other online resources.

Please note: Your UofL Library privileges must be renewed every semester in order to access electronic resources from off-campus. See the section above for details on updating your privileges.

For your convenience, we have included links to the University of Calgary Library's Social Work related databases along with our licensed databases. When you choose a U of Calgary database from the list, you will automatically be taken to the UofC Library webpage. At this point, you will need to authenticate yourself as a U of Calgary student by keying in your UofC username and password.

If you reside more than 90 km outside the city limits of Lethbridge and require circulating materials listed in our library catalogue to be sent to you, please use the REQUEST button located at the top of the catalogue page describing the item you need.

    Interlibrary Loans

Submit all requests for interlibrary loans using the appropriate request forms.

Interlibrary loan service is dependent on where you live:

    • MSW (Lethbridge Division) students who are living within 90 km of Lethbridge may request all types of Interlibrary Loans (e.g. books or journal articles).
      • Journal articles are sent electronically to your email address. You must pick up interlibrary loan books at the General Services Desk, and return them by the due date.
      • The Library may restrict requests only to Canadian locations.

    • MSW (Lethbridge Division) students who are living within Alberta and at least 90 km outside of Lethbridge may request all types of Interlibrary Loans (e.g. books or journal articles).
      • Journal articles are sent electronically to your email address, but you must return all other library loans to the University of Lethbridge Library by their due dates using the same delivery methods we used to send them to you (e.g. Canada Post, private courier, etc.).
      • The Library may restrict requests only to Canadian locations.

    • MSW (Lethbridge Division) students who are living outside of Alberta and Canada may request copies of journal articles or chapters of books which will be sent electronically to your email address.
      • The Library is unable to offer Interlibrary Loan services involving other libraries' books because the borrowing time granted by other institutions is insufficient for sending, using and returning materials.
      • For these students, the Library is happy to provide you with library cards permitting direct use of libraries in your area. For more information on these cards, see the section above: Borrowing privileges at other libraries.
      • Unfortunately, these cards (the TAL card and the COPPUL card) are not valid outside of Canada. In some cases libraries outside of Canada may request a formal letter from us requesting library service on your behalf. Please contact us if you require this kind of documentation outside of Canada.
