Description
The Nicholas de Grandmaison collection of archival materials, some of which are displayed in our Library entrance cabainets were gifted to the University of Lethbridge in 1988 by the artist’s children. The online materials in the Libraries digitized resources were selected from this expansive collection. Comprising the bulk of the collection are images of de Grandmaison’s paintings and drawings of First Nations peoples; much of the collection is related to de Grandmaison’s life, family, techniques, correspondence and his subjects. The University of Lethbridge Archives was very pleased to accept this donation form the Art Gallery as it reflects the Archive’s objectives to preserve and make available records of historical value to serve as an information resource for teaching and learning, research and scholarship by members of the academic community and the community at large. In one cabinet we have also presented books about Canadian painters of First Nation subjects: Paul Kane, Cornelius Krieghoff and Edmund Morris.
