Accessing Class Web Space

Instructions for Accessing Class Web Space

For ease of use, you may prefer to map your class web space to your computer so that you may access it through a shortcut on your desktop instead of having to go through Network Neighborhood each time.

To map your Class Web Space to your computer:

PC:

Windows 95/98

  • log onto your computer and the network
  • right click on Network Neighborhood and select Map Network Drive
  • select a drive to map to (not a letter you currently use, such as P or W)
  • type in the path \\ulfiles\classweb
  • select reconnect at logon so your drive will be mapped every time you log onto your computer then click OK

You may want to make a shortcut on your desktop to your class web space. Then you can just click on the shortcut to access your web space.

To access your file or to create a shortcut:

Open Network Neighborhood
Open the entire network
Open Uleth
Open ulfiles
Open classweb
Select the semester, then your class number.

Right click on your class and select Create Shortcut.
Click yes to place the shortcut on the desktop. Do this for each class.


Windows 2000 and XP

  • log onto your computer and the network
  • right click on My Computer OR My Network Places and select Map Network Drive
  • select a drive to map to (not a letter you currently use, such as P or W)
  • click on BROWSE
  • select Entire Network
  • select Microsft Windows Network and locate uleth, then ulfiles, then classweb
  • select the semester you want, then your course number. Click OK.
  • on "Connect using a different user name", select different user name.
    • for "User Name" type in uleth\your.username
    • for "Password" type in your password
  • select reconnect at startup so your drive will be mapped every time you log onto your computer.
  • click on Finish

You may want to make a shortcut on your desktop to your class web space. Then you can just click on the shortcut to access your web space.

To access your file or to create a shortcut:

Open My Network Places, select Entire Network
Select Entire Contents from the left side of the window
Select Microsoft Windows Network
Open Uleth
Open ulfiles
Open classweb
Select the semester, then your class number.

Right click on your class and select Create Shortcut.
Click yes to place the shortcut on the desktop. Do this for each class.


MAC

OS-X:

  • Select Connect to Server from the Go menu in the finder.
  • Choose IT and then IT Macfiles from the listing of available servers.
  • Click the Connect button and enter your UofL username and password.
  • An icon labelled "Class Web" appears on your desktop.
  • Double click on this icon and a window will open listing all classes being offered in that semester. Scroll to find the class you are instructing, and double click on that folder to gain access to your web space.
  • Note: Or on the "address bar" you can type in afp://macfiles.uleth.ca

System 9 and earlier:

  • Select the Chooser from your Apple menu
  • Select AppleShare and IT as the AppleTalk Zone
  • Select IT MacFiles as the File Server
  • Login using your U of L username and password. Click on Connect.
  • Select Class Web. Be sure you do not check the box next to "Class Web", but only highlight it on the list.
  • Click OK and an icon labelled "Class Web" should appear on your desktop.
  • Double click on this icon and a window will open listing all classes being offered in that semester. Scroll to find the class you are instructing, and double click on that folder to gain access to your web space.

    To post files from off-campus, you will have to FTP them to your class web space. Follow the FTP instructions below for off-campus access and use an FTP client such as "Fetch".


FTP Instructions

To post files from off-campus, you will have to FTP them to your class web space.

  • Start the program Ws_ftp. Under the General Tab use the following settings:
Profile name your name
(or the name of your class)
Host Name/Address classes.uleth.ca
For host type default UNIX
user ID your file username
(eg. firstname.lastname, john.doe)
password your password
click on the Startup tab  
Initial Remote Site Folder /web/clsweb/semester/coursename
(eg. /web/clsweb/200603/educ4769na)
Initial Local Folder wherever your local files reside
(eg. c:\myclassstuff)

press OK to connect, then enter your password when it is requested.
