University Academic Pension Plan and Public Service Pension Plan Policies and ProceduresMembership:1. APO Full-time continuing APO's must join the University Academic Pension Plan (UAPP) and part-time continuing APO's whose appointment is at least half time, may join the UAPP. Part-time staff must sign a waiver to be exempted (APO Policy and Procedure Manual [APO P&P;] Section 7, University of Lethbridge Board of governor's [ULBG] motion 18-MAY-78, President's request to Academic Pension Board [APB] 01-JUL-78, Public Sector Pension Plans Act [PSPPA] 370/93 2(1)(p)(ii)). Full-time Term APO's and part-time Term APO's with terms of one year or less may join UAPP if they have contributions left on deposit with a reciprocal plan. (PSPPA 370/93 2(1)(p)(ii), 2(1)(p)(v)). Full-time Term APO's with terms longer than one year, or with extensions that make them longer than one year must belong to UAPP. Part-time Term APO's with terms longer than one year, or with extensions that make them longer than one year may belong to UAPP. Part-time staff must sign a waiver to be exempted. (PSPPA 370/93 2(1)(p)(ii)). 2. Faculty Full-time continuing Faculty must join the UAPP and part-time continuing Faculty whose appointment is judged to be at least half time, may join the UAPP. Part-time staff must sign a waiver to be exempted (ULBG 15-DEC-77, Faculty Handbook Schedule B, PSPPA 370/93 2(1)(p)(i) ). Full-time Term Faculty and part-time Term Faculty with terms of one year or less may join UAPP if they have contributions left on deposit with a reciprocal plan. (PSPPA 370/93 2(1)(p)(ii), 2(1)(p)(v)). Full-time Term Faculty with terms longer than one year, or with extensions that make them longer than one year must belong to UAPP. Part-time Term Faculty with terms longer than one year, or with extensions that make them longer than one year may belong to UAPP. Part-time staff must sign a waiver to be exempted. Full-time Project and Term Support Staff with terms longer than one year, or with extensions that make them longer than one year must belong to PSPP. Part-time Project and Term Support Staff with terms longer than one year, or with extensions that make them longer than one year may belong to PSPP. Part-time staff must sign a waiver to be exempted. 4. Directors Full-time continuing Directors must join the UAPP and part-time continuing Directors whose appointment is at least half time, may join the UAPP. Full-time Term Directors and part-time Term Directors with terms of one year or less may join UAPP if they have contributions left on deposit with a reciprocal plan. Transfers If an employee is a member of the pension plan and changes constituent groups due to a change in position, that employee will be eligible to belong to the pension plan of the new position. For example, a person moving from a support staff position to an APO position will be eligible to join UAPP if they were a member of PSPP. |
