LEARNING STRATEGIST

The University of Lethbridge is inviting applications for the position of Learning Strategist to begin as soon as possible. Reporting to the Manager, Student Success, this is a full-time continuing position. The Student Success Centre is a newly developing unit at the University of Lethbridge designed to work collaboratively with units across our three campuses to enhance student engagement and assist students in achieving their academic goals.

The main goal of the Learning Strategist is to provide guidance, tools and support to University students in their desire to improve academic success. Specifically, this position will provide both one-on-one and small group setting instruction, coaching and skills development in areas such as; study skill, study habits, study attitudes, and study motivation.

The successful incumbent will also play a key role as a resource to the University community by creating promotional and educational materials for the University websites, professional development information for faculty and staff, as well as for outreach.

The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline together with at least 2 years of experience working in individual and group instruction at a post secondary level. To support student success, a thorough understanding of writing, grammar, study and learning skills is required. Knowledge of adult learning theory would be considered an asset, and preference will be given to candidates with a Learning Strategist Certificate, or individuals willing to pursue this specialization.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to serving students and their needs, and must have strong active listening skills to help students identify barriers to academic success. Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, as well as strong interpersonal skills to be able to relate to and understand student's needs are required. A creative approach to problem solving and the ability to build positive relationships not only with students, but with all members of the University community, are especially important to this position.
