Grants Facilitator

GRANTS FACILITATOR (NATURAL SCIENCES)

The Office of Research and Innovation Services (ORIS) is a central support to the research community at the University of Lethbridge and is a valuable and important resource as research activity continues to grow. ORIS invites applications for a full-time Grants Facilitator in the portfolio of Natural Science to commence as soon as possible.

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President Research, the Grants Facilitator plays an important role in ensuring the continued growth and development of research and scholarly activity at the University of Lethbridge. The portfolio for this position will include Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC), Canada Research Chairs (CRC), Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), and Alberta Innovates. Responsibilities within this portfolio include:

- advising faculty members on the applicable policies, procedures and guidelines of the University and external sponsors;
- assisting faculty with the development of grant proposals;
- working with the Associate Vice-President Research to co-ordinate large institutional applications, including Canada Research Chair and Canada Foundation for Innovation proposals.
- post-grant administration, including opening research accounts, tracking timelines for renewal and ensuring the completion and submission of reports to granting agencies;
- communicating with granting agencies as appropriate;
- working with the Office of Financial Services to manage and administer large institutional grants;
- administering undergraduate research awards in the Natural Sciences;

The ideal candidate will possess a graduate degree, preferably in the natural sciences and will have experience in writing/reviewing grant/contract proposals. Although an advanced degree is preferred, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The candidate must be familiar with national granting councils and other major sponsors of University research in Canada. The candidate must have superior interpersonal skills with an ability to establish strong relationships with the research community, across all disciplines at the University. The candidate must be highly organized, have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and have experience managing and coordinating a high volume of diverse activities under tight deadlines. Due to the nature of this position, the candidate must possess sound judgement, tact, diplomacy and discretion. The successful candidate must be willing to re-locate to Lethbridge.
