POLICY DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES FOR EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS

Terms and conditions of employment applying to term, probationary and continuing Executive Director employees, are set out in the Executive Director Policy and Procedure Manual.

It is the responsibility of each Executive Director to conduct him or herself according to these and other policies approved by the Board of Governors including Conflict of Interest Guidelines and Procedures in a consistent and objective manner.  Policy statements in this manual are specifically referenced by the heading "Policy" and have been placed in a double lined box.  Procedures, where applicable, follow policy statements.  Assistance with interpretation of policies and procedures can be provided by the Human Resources Director or Officer.
 
 POLICY:

The President recommends to the Board of Governors on all matters of policy related to terms and conditions of employment for Executive Directors (as defined in Section 1-B).  This manual outlines policies and related procedures approved by the Board of Governors as of July 1, 1998 , with amendment dates shown for specific policies and procedures.  Terms and conditions of employment may also be referenced in written contracts of employment or other contracts, approved by the Board of Governors.  Executive Director employees are also governed by other policies, or directives of the University of Lethbridge as they may exist from time to time.

PROCEDURE:
(Revised February, 2005)

1. An individual Executive Director may submit a written recommendation to amend or create a policy or procedure to the Associate Vice-President Human Resources and Administration Director, Human Resources for discussion and review.

2. The Associate Vice-President Human Resources and Administration Director, Human Resources will be a resource to Executive Directors, guiding them in researching and developing their policy/procedure recommendation before it is submitted to Executive Directors' Council for review.

3. Policy recommendations supported by Executive Directors' Council will be submitted to the President for support and recommendation for Board approval.

4. Procedure recommendations supported by Executive Directors' Council will be submitted to the President for approval.

5. Any approved policy/procedure will be distributed by Human Resources to all applicable employees for inclusion in this manual. Where proposed amendments are not approved by the President or the Board, written notification will be provided and the original policy/procedure shall prevail.

 

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DESIGNATION 

SECTION: 1-B 
POLICY:

The Board recognizes the Executive Director designation as identifying an employee with a distinct role in the University. Members carrying the designation of Executive Director perform duties in a senior management, university wide capacity.

Positions falling into the Executive Director classification are as follows:

Jim Booth, Executive Director, Ancillary Services

Chris Eagan, Executive Director, Facilities

Clark Ferguson, Chief Information Officer

Don Hunt, Registrar

Ken McInnes, Executive Director, Human Resources

John O'Keeffe, Executive Director, Campus Safety

Sandy Slavin, Executive Director, Sport & Recreation Services

Carrie Takeyasu, Executive Director, Financial Services

All Executive Directors are members of Executive Directors' Council (defined in Appendix A ).
