Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in North America. Vascular and related diseases (heart disease, diseases of the blood vessels, stroke, diabetes) account for the death of more Canadians than any other disease. In 2008, cardiovascular disease accounted for 29% of all deaths in Canada (69,648 deaths - www.heartsandstroke.ca). Vascular disease risks increase drafmatically by age 50. Although the average age of a U of L employee is younger than 50, in order to make lifestyle changes, early education is a must. As employees are the U of L's most vital asset, we feel it is important to provide a screening assessment and follow-up health planning to assist employees to reduce their risk. Health Check for U includes a FREE Lifestyle Assessment with a Certified Fitness professional, and nutritional consultation. Contact Wellness (wellness@uleth.ca) for more information or to register.
