Your Residence Dining Plan, What You Need to Know
Overview
- Your meal card is your Student ID card, you load money on to it and it operates on a declining balance, just like a debit card. You only pay for what you select from the Food Services Outlets.
- The Residence Dining Plan is not intended to be an all you can eat experience but to be a core part of your weekly dining. It is not intended to cover all your meals in a given week. At average usage, the dining plan should cover approximately 12-14 meals throughout the week.
- The remaining 7-9 meals per week can be made up in a number of ways, cooking or preparing food at home, going out for meals etc. If you plan to eat all your meals with University of Lethbridge Food Services, you may require additional funds added to your meal plan throughout the year.
Where do I go to put more money on my card?
At any time you can add more money on to your card by going to the Food Services Office located in A681.
What happens if my card is lost or stolen?
Don’t worry! You can go get a new card made for you at a Computer Lab in Anderson Hall (AH 150) or in University Hall (E610) for $10. Then come down to the Food Services office and we can reactivate it.
Who can use the dining plan?
All first year students living in University Hall or Kainai House Residences are automatically enrolled in the dining plan.
Where can I use my dining plan?
You can use your dining plan at Coulee Junction, The Station (Mr. Sub), Tim Hortons and Fresh Express as well as vending throughout campus. It is important to note that your Dining Plan can only be used to purchase food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Money Matters
What happens if I don’t use all the money on my card before the end of the year?
Use it or lose it! The balance of your meal plan is non- refundable and non- transferable. Because of the GST exemption, balances remaining after the end of the academic year will be forfeited after April 30th, 2013. The Dining plan is easy to use, in fact you may run out. Many students choose to add more to the plan throughout the course of the year.
How much does it cost?
The minimum commitment to the meal plan is $1986.00 for Aperture and $2766.00 for University Hall Residents. This cost represents a dollar amount break down of $9.46/day and $13.17/day respectively. This is what you should aim to average per day over your 8 month contract. The average student spends $20.51/ day. If you think you will eat more than this on the average day, then you may need to add more to your food plan throughout the year or consider selecting the Value Plan based on $15.83/day.

The U of L recognizes that nutrition and academic success are highly correlated and aims to ensure that all our students have access to a healthy diet. If you are applying for Student Loans , please take into consideration your normal dining habits and recognize that the Residence Dining Plan may need to be supplemented throughout the year, please budget accordingly.
Will I need to add additional money to my card?
It depends on how much you eat, where you eat and what you eat. Many people do add more funds throughout the year and for some people the amount is just right. It is important to remember that the meal plan is not designed to provide every meal during the academic year. Please consult the Balance Calculator to help determine if you will need to add more funds throughout the year. Balance Calculator Tool
How much can I eat?
