Organization of Residence Students (O.R.S.)

Hey Rezzors!

My name is Kyle Hammond and I am President of ORS for the 2011/2012 school year.  Let me be the first to welcome you all to the best part of the U of L. Residence!  There are approximately 650 students living within residence and all of them have different majors, areas of interest, hometowns and can be in their first or last year of study.  Despite all of these differences, Residence is a place where there is a special sense of community that bonds us with the other students living within these facilities. This is due, in no small part to our wonderful Residence Assistants (RA’s).

An RA is an older student, who is enthusiastic and passionate about all aspects of university life and is there to make sure that you get the most out of your time at the U of L and ensure that these truly are the best years of your life! They plan fun events, keep you informed on happenings around the university and answer those questions so you are not so lost in your first year.

So why come to the U of L and live in residence?  University is not just about academic and professional development, it is also about personal growth in all aspects of your life.  This year we are putting a special focus on trying to be as environmentally conscious as possible. We understand that no one thing is going to be an environmental solution; so our approach is to try and encourage people to do all the small things they can in their day to day lives. This ranges from turning off your lights to recycling paper and bottles to using products that are designed to have a minimal impact on the environment.

I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have and remember to get out and experience everything the University of Lethbridge has to offer!

Cheers,

Kyle Hammond
President of the Organization of Residence Students (ORS)

The University of Lethbridge aims to provide convenient living accommodations together with services and programs from which students may secure special educational, social and cultural advantages. The University is concerned not only with the physical environment within the Residence, but also with providing an educational and social environment to aid the personal growth of each resident.

ORS would like to welcome you to life on the University of Lethbridge Campus. We have a brand new council this year and we're motivated and energetic! Here is a little bit about our structure and the people who represent you.

ORS is comprised of all residents of the University of Lethbridge Residence who are either student, or in the case of the Family Townhomes, any family members who are over the age of 18.

Residence Council

The Residence Council is the executive body of the ORS. Each Resident Assistant holds a position on Residence Council. Residence Council represents student needs and concerns, and allocates ORS resources to best serve students. The Council's meeting time will be determined by Council at the beginning of the Fall semester. You are invited and have the right to participate in these meetings. Just let your RA know ahead of time so he or she can pencil you in on the agenda and inform you of where the meeting is scheduled to be held. If you would like to obtain an agenda or minutes of a week's meeting, please see one of the executives on council.

The Residence Council also helps the ORS President to gather information to bring to the Student’s Union General Assembly that he or she meets with once a month. The choices made by the Student’s Union can drastically affect what occurs on campus, so make sure you voice your own opinions to the Residence Council or at least pass them along to your RA so your ideas can be acknowledged.
