Reznet and Viruses

Tuesday, October 11, 2005

The UofL Department of Information Technology is pleased to announce a solution to the virus troubles on Reznet!

The Reznet service now has an Anti-Virus option that should alleviate most of the virus troubles on Reznet. Installation and use of this service, while not mandatory, is very strongly recommended.

To participate in this service, all one needs to do is follow these simple instructions:
  1. From your Reznet attached computer, log onto the following web link from “Microsoft Internet Explorer”:
http://antivirus.reznet.uleth.ca
  1. From the main page, there are three options for your use.
    1. Trend OfficeScan AntiVirus install page
    2. Ad-Aware Link
    3. SpyBot Search and Destroy Link
  2. Follow the directions on each page and you are set!

Please note that after the installation of the Trend OfficeScan product, your computer will receive automatic update files from the Office Scan server. The officescan client will be set to do a scheduled scan at 1:00pm on Sunday afternoons. If this is an inconvenient time for you, please change the day/time of your scheduled scan. You can also do a manual scan at any time.

The Ad-Aware and SpyBotSD pages are freeware that Telecomm recommend you download and install on your machine. They are exceptionally good at removing SpyWare and Malware from your computer.

Together, all these products should give all Reznet users a much better Reznet experience.

We thank you in advance for helping to keep Reznet virus free.
