Lethbridge, AB - ThePronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 15, 2009

    Female Athlete of the Week:

    Lauren Taal – Women’s Basketball

Third-year guard, Lauren Taal’s (Lethbridge, AB) play was a major factor in the Horns earning their first win and a weekend sweep of Pacific Division foes this past weekend.
Friday night in the Horns 81-75 win over Thompson Rivers, Taal led all scorers with 21 points, which tied a career high. She hit 7 of 19 shots, including four three points and also collected 5 rebounds and an impressive 6 steals.

Saturday night, Taal was given the daunting task of shutting down Canada West leading scorer Jane Meadwell. While Meadwell picked up 18 points, only 6 were when Taal was on the floor defending her. As a group, the Horns only allowed 2 first quarter points and a season low 58 points overall.

Taal picked up five points and registered another four steals in the Horns 75-58 win over Fraser Valley.

Lauren is second in Horns scoring so far this season, averaging 11.5 points.

    Male Athlete of the Week:

    Jeff Price – Men’s Basketball

After transferring from the University of Calgary, first year Pronghorn, Jeff Price (Calgary, AB, 4th) has stepped right into the Horns line up and made an immediate impact.

Friday night, in the Horns second consecutive win, he picked up a double-double with a game high 26 points, along with 10 rebounds. He also recorded 7 assists in the 84-75 win over Thompson Rivers.

The following night, Jeff registered another 17 points and 4 assists in the Horns close, 82-77, loss at the hands of the Fraser Valley Cascades.

Through six games this season, Price is fourth in Canada West scoring, averaging 19.8 points and third in the conference in assists per game with 5.5.
