High School Applicants

Steps for Application

1. Complete Application for Admission at ApplyAlberta.ca

2. If appying from outside of Alberta, request high school transcripts to be sent directly to the U of L Admissions Office

3. Those completing high school courses from Jan-June will need to provide mid-term grades by April 1.

Admission Requirements

All applicants applying for the B.N. program must present the following Alberta high school courses or equivalents:

• English Language Arts 30-1 (minimum 60%)
• Biology 30
• Chemistry 30
• Mathematics 30-2, or Mathematics 30-1, or Pure Mathematics 30
• A fifth course (not Special Projects) at the Grade 12 level

(Please note: Applied Mathematics 30 cannot be used for admission to the Bachelor of Nursing program)

Admission to the program is highly competitive and applicants are ranked according to their qualifications using the following scheme:

• English Language Arts 30-1 mark x 15%
• Biology 30 mark x 15%
• Chemistry 30 mark x 15%
• Mathematics 30 mark x 15%
• High School Average* x 40%
= Total score 100%

*High School Average refers to the high school admission average that includes: English Language Arts 30-1, the highest three other ‘academic’ 30-levels, and a fifth, full 30-level course.

Clinical Requirements

The richness of the BN program is built upon our close connection with rural communities. Consequently, travel outside Lethbridge will be expected for clinical practice and students must incur the cost of this travel.

Newly admitted students must provide the following documents by Orientation Day of the first year:

1. A specific schedule of immunization (forms will be provided by the Clinical Placement Office). Immunizations must be renewed as required in each year of the program.
2. Evidence of a current CPR-HCP (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation at the Health Care Provider Level) certificate. Students must have current CPR-HCP certification before entering a clinical setting.
3. Current criminal record check (or equivalent). Renewal of a criminal record check may be required at the discretion of faculty or staff of partnering agencies.
