Grad students are pursuing all kinds of research topics. Paulo, seen here recording bird vocalization in North Carolina, is combining population genetics, phylogeography, bioacoustics, and geographic information systems to solve historical and biogeographic questions. Studying genetic information of the Downy woodpecker, Paulo is reconstructing evolutionary relationships between populations from different regions of Canada and the United States.
