Kenow Wildfire

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Dear graduate students, faculty, and staff,

With the ongoing Kenow wildfire event, some areas in southwestern Alberta are under evacuation orders. While our campuses in Lethbridge and Calgary are not under physical threat at this time, some students, faculty, and staff are directly affected by the wildfires.

Emergency updates, evacuee registration and assistance, and information about reception centres is available on the Government of Alberta website. Please access and utilize these services, if needed. You can receive alerts to your smartphone, tablet or computer by subscribing to Alberta Emergency Management Agency Alerts.

There are no class cancellations at this time. However, some students may experience distress and student safety remains a top priority. Information regarding available resources for students, staff and faculty is posted to the Notice Board.

In any case, please continue to provide affected students with understanding and allow appropriate accommodations. If you need assistance determining a solution, contact SGS Associate Dean Helen Kelley (helen.kelley@uleth.ca) or SGS Dean Robert Wood (robert.wood@uleth.ca) for advice.

For those affected by the Kenow wildfire, the School of Graduate Studies will provide accommodation for internal awards, scholarships and grant application deadlines. Contact our Graduate Awards Advisor at sgs.awards@uleth.ca for more information regarding possible accommodations.

We appreciate your assistance and understanding with anyone who has been directly impacted during this unfortunate and difficult time.

Best,

School of Graduate Studies
