Part 5: Student Categories, Responsibilities and Entitlements

Leave of Absence

When circumstances prevent a student from continuing his or her program—in consultation with the chair of the MN Program Committee and, where applicable, the Thesis Supervisor—a request may be made for a Leave of Absence to the SGS for approval. For example, those wishing to take maternity or paternity leave can request a Leave of Absence. A Leave of Absence can be for up to a maximum of one year, and students are allowed up to a maximum of two leaves throughout the program. Fees are not assessed during a Leave of Absence. Students consult with the chair of the MN Program Committee to discuss possible implications of a Leave of Absence for program completion.
