Campus Alberta Health Outcomes & Public Health Meeting Grant

Campus Alberta Health Outcomes and Public Health is pleased to offer its 7th funding opportunity to support networking between Alberta’s health services and population health researchers and research stakeholders.
The overriding goal is to produce synergies and collaboration among provincial stakeholders in health outcomes and public health. Alberta has considerable potential to lead international innovations in these areas. Through the formal establishment of Campus Alberta Health Outcomes and Public Health, participating partners seek to align creativity, expertise, educational programs, and research platforms toward the common goal of internationally-leading innovation in the domains of health outcomes and public health.
Meeting grants are being offered to host pan-Alberta gatherings of stakeholders in Health Outcomes and Public Health thematic areas. Topics of population health, social determinants of health, and patient engagement are encouraged; catalyzing new partnerships and collaborations is a particular focus of these grants. Proponents of smaller meetings may request up to $2,500 and meetings that can explicitly justify a larger budget can request up to $4,000. Depending on demand and availability of funds, six to 12 applications will be funded.
The applicant must have a formal affiliation with one of the Campus Alberta groups (Alberta Health Services, University of Alberta School of Public Health, University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine & Denitistry, University of Calgary O'Brien Institute for Public Health, and University of Lethbridge Faculty of Health Sciences)
Criteria for selection
- The proposed meeting topic is clearly articulated, and is in the areas of health outcomes and public health;
- Meeting leaders and attendees are clearly specified, and include stakeholders from as many relevant organizations as possible (e.g., AHS, AH, UofA, UofC, UofL, SCNs);
- Potential outputs (e.g., follow-up meeting plans, future team grant applications, training opportunities) are clear and achievable;
- Track record (e.g., academic outputs or outputs from applied public health work) of lead applicant(s) may be a criterion if many applications are received;
- Financial need and availability of matching funds will be considered for applications from well-established entities.
Repeat applications will only be considered competitive if the applicant(s) (i) demonstrate significant progress from previous award(s), (ii) justify the need for a repeat meeting, and (iii) demonstrate efforts to leverage external funding.
Review Process & Award Conditions
Applications will be reviewed by the Campus Alberta Health Outcomes and Public Health working group, and results will be announced in mid-October.
It is expected that successful applicants will conduct their provincial meeting (and use all funds) prior to March 31, 2018. Successful applicants will be expected to (i) provide a written report to the Campus AB working group by April 15, 2018, documenting all meeting outputs and outcomes, and (ii) present their findings at the annual Campus Alberta Health Outcomes Public Health Provincial Forum in May, 2018 (date and format of presentation TBA).
A one-page application (maximum one page, minimum 10 point font; use form provided) will outline the meeting’s thematic area, and anticipated participants, timing, location, budget, and goals/deliverables.
